Queen's Parade Sports Pitches, Aldershot – Delivering High-Performance LED Sports Floodlighting

At SJB Floodlighting, we're passionate about delivering high-quality sports lighting installations that allow clubs, organisations and training facilities to maximise the use of their sports pitches throughout the year.

One of our recent projects took us to Queen's Parade Sports Pitches in Aldershot, where we completed the installation of a new LED floodlighting system using BELL Lighting's Skyline Powertron floodlights and Abacus columns. The project was designed to provide outstanding illumination across several sports pitches while improving energy efficiency and reducing long-term maintenance requirements.

The completed installation now provides a modern lighting solution capable of supporting a wide range of sporting activities throughout the darker months of the year.

Understanding the Project

Queen's Parade forms part of the wider Aldershot military sports facilities and is used extensively for training, competitive fixtures and recreational sport.

The existing lighting infrastructure required upgrading to meet the demands of a busy multi-pitch sports complex.

Working alongside BELL Lighting, whose in-house lighting design team developed the lighting scheme, SJB Floodlighting was responsible for delivering the installation safely, efficiently and to the highest professional standard.

The project included the installation of 36 Skyline Powertron LED floodlights, carefully positioned to provide excellent lighting uniformity across the playing surfaces.

Professional Installation from Start to Finish

Sports floodlighting projects require far more than simply replacing existing light fittings.

Every installation demands careful planning, precision and attention to detail.

Our engineers carried out the installation by:

  • Installing 36 high-performance LED floodlights

  • Construction of 9 New Abacus Columns

  • Mounting and securing luminaires to the lighting columns

  • Precisely aiming each floodlight to achieve the required lighting levels

  • Completing electrical testing and commissioning

  • Ensuring every fitting operated exactly as designed

Correct aiming is one of the most important aspects of any sports lighting installation. Even the highest-quality luminaires will not perform effectively if they are incorrectly aligned.

Our experienced engineers ensured every luminaire was positioned to maximise light output across the playing areas while reducing unnecessary glare and light spill.

Advanced LED Lighting Technology

The installation uses BELL Lighting's Skyline Powertron LED floodlighting system, specifically designed for demanding sports environments.

The system provides:

  • High-output LED performance

  • Excellent light uniformity

  • Reduced energy consumption

  • Long service life

  • Instant start-up

  • Lower maintenance requirements

To further improve lighting performance, a combination of Deep Shields and Shallow Shields was incorporated where required.

These accessories help direct light precisely onto the playing surfaces while significantly reducing horizontal light spill beyond the site boundary.

This not only improves player comfort but also helps minimise the impact on neighbouring areas.

Lighting Multiple Sports Pitches

Unlike a single stadium installation, Queen's Parade consists of multiple sports pitches used throughout the year.

The lighting design needed to ensure consistent illumination across each playing surface while maintaining excellent uniformity between pitches.

The completed installation now provides high-quality lighting suitable for:

  • Rugby training

  • Football

  • Military sport

  • Community sports

  • Evening training sessions

  • Organised fixtures

By improving visibility across every pitch, players, coaches and officials benefit from safer and more enjoyable playing conditions.

Improving Energy Efficiency

One of the biggest advantages of modern LED sports lighting is its efficiency.

Compared with older metal halide systems, LED floodlighting offers:

  • Lower electricity consumption

  • Reduced operating costs

  • Longer lifespan

  • Less maintenance

  • Improved reliability

For facilities operating throughout the winter months, these savings can significantly reduce overall running costs while supporting long-term sustainability goals.

Delivering Quality Through Partnership

Projects like Queen's Parade demonstrate the importance of collaboration between lighting designers, manufacturers and installation specialists.

Working alongside BELL Lighting, SJB Floodlighting ensured the installation reflected the original lighting design while meeting the practical demands of installation on site.

By combining premium LED products with experienced installation, the result is a lighting system designed to perform reliably for many years to come.
